Tattoos: Skank or Swank

by Paul Baranda

Tattoos (on men or women) can be hot (if within a certain realm of taste and with some level of self control).

Having been an artist myself, I can appreciate the work of an artfully done tattoo. But, the do-it-yourself, prison version tattoos in the ever-so-lovely shade of blue-black are not attractive on anyone.

For the prison version…

I work next to a young woman who has at least 30 tattoos (that I can see) as reminders of things that have occurred in her life.

My comment: buy a camera and a scrapbook, it’s considerably more lady-like when you take off your jacket and you have on a sleeveless silk shell.

I also recently took the NY subway and saw a business man with a tattoo covering his entire head with what was to be a helmet of some sort. He was a somewhat handsome man (with this unavoidable detraction). If getting attention was his goal, he certainly attained it. If it was to become more attractive (in some way), I’m not so sure.
