I’m really excited about the initiative from philosophy that will benefit the fight for pediatric cancer. This is a great charity event that I wanted to share with you all since I lost a great friend and classmate to cancer when I was only in 6th grade. There is nearly 13,000 children and adolescents in the U.S. who are diagnosed with cancer which is equivalent to two average size classrooms diagnosed each school day.
From August 15th – October 15th, 100% of the net proceeds from philosophy’s oatmeal raisin high foaming shampoo, shower gel and bubble bath will be generously donated to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer to raise awareness and funds towards pediatric cancer research. This is a wonderful organization created to raise awareness of and funds to support research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancer through the concept of hosting local bake sales.
In addition, philosophy will also be hosting their own local bake sales at their Arizona store locations. So for you readers in Arizona who would like to support this great cause, please contact your local philosophy retail store for more information!
For more information on the Cookies for Kids’ Cancer organization you can visit their website (www.cookiesforkidscancer.org) where you can learn how to throw your own bake sale. (Now you can help spread pediatric cancer awareness with your famous blueberry cupcakes!)
Here’s more facts about Pediatric Cancer:
- Pediatric cancer is referred to as an “orphan disease” because there is little or no profit to be made by the pharmaceutical companies and the reason why they ignore pediatric cancers for the most part.
- Today about 75% of children diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors yet in the U.S. cancer remains the leading cause of death from one year through adolescence; more than any other disease. In the early 1950s, less than 10 percent of childhood cancer patients could be cured, proof that research can and is making a difference.
- Historically, some of the most basic and essential treatment strategies now employed in the fight against cancer – such as multi-agent chemotherapy and combined modality therapy – were developed through pediatric cancer research.
- In the U.S., combined, the cancers of children, adolescents and young adults to age 20 are the sixth most common cancer in the U.S.
- Recent reports indicate that nearly two-thirds of childhood cancer survivors experience significant medical problems resulting from their original cancer and/or its treatment.

This is a wonderful thing Philosophy is doing for a great cause…..what we need to realize is that a lot of ingredients in shampoos, body washes, and soaps are carcinogenic so we need to stop using them and stop letting out kids use them too. Natural alternatives do exist and are much safer in the long run. I dedicate my blog to helping people realize this and transitioning to the organic lifestyle.
