My mom & I are both breast cancer survivors. The massive advances in research in the 4 years seperating her last mastectomy (she had it two times, 7 years apart) and my diagnosis a year ago, meant that I only had to have a lumpectomy with radiation treatment (no chemo). The doctors said that if I had had mine when she did, I would have probably had to have my breast removed and had to have had chemo.

Please, please do your self-exams and get your mammograms. And do keep supporting these amazing scientists who really are getting closer and closer to finding a cure!

Women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any breast change promptly to their health care providers. Breast self-exam is an option for women starting in their 20s.

Many women in my family have had breast cancer and I want to be around to watch my children grow up. I’m trying to be as preventative as I can.

At this time, breast cancer cannot be prevented, which is why regular mammograms are so important; they can find breast cancers early, when they are easier to treat.
