Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim: Tibi, Caffe, Marysia

by Ken Baranda

Unlike it’s New York counter part Miami’s IMG Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim was more of a laid back approach to the runway. The Florida summers are notorious for it’s humidity so you can imagine my delight to find out that Patron had sponsored the event and we were quickly greeted with a couple of raspberry margaritas upon entry. After a few more complimentary drinks we hurried on to our first show for the evening, Tibi at the Cabana Grande at the Raleigh. Since it was the first official show for the week, one can feel the buzz in the air as photographers squeezed themselves in to the press box mimicking sardines in a can. The dj Jaavier Peral played drum and base lifting the energy level a few more notches as the crowd eagerly awaited the start of the show. Tibi’s design was fun and colorful using batik and ikat prints with a fresh and vibrant color mix. After that it was off to the Caffe Swimwear 2010 Collection. Dj Subzero provided a upbeat hip-hop style to this venue. The Caffe collection had a mix of traditional looks and boheimian inspired designs with bright colors. Then it was off to the Marysia Swim Collection at the Oasis runway. This final show was set in on the beach with the beautiful night sky as a compliment. The collection was a refreshing change from the ordinary complete with a punk rock ballerina look.
