I was finally able to make some time to see the movie Julie & Julia this weekend and it was sooo cute! Finally they make a movie on such an amazing woman who became everyone’s favorite chef (and mine too!). Meryl Streep was perfect for the role and Amy Adams was charming as always. Amy certainly manages to pull off that “girl-next-door-yet-I-can-be-sexy” look. She is definitely one hot red-head, especially with her beautiful hair color on the cover of Allure’s August issue. (I totally want to color my hair red now!)
Her glowing hair color was done by the brilliant Tracey Cunningham, Redken’s Creative Consultant for Color. Tracey used Redken Shades EQ to keep Amy’s color close to the natural pigment of her roots softening the deep red that we are used to.
Tracey says, “ When you have a client with a beautiful natural existing shade like Amy you don’t want to take that away. When I color Amy’s hair we just brighten and enrich her natural color with Redken Shades EQ. A true redhead like Amy has alluring color and you don’t want to die over that shade.”
If you want to get Amy’s hot hair color, talk to your colorist about Tracey’s formula for Amy:
Tracey uses equal parts of Redken’s Shades EQ -
- 08C Cayenne
- 09NB Irish Creme
- 09AA Papaya
- 07G Saffron
Redken Shades EQ is a demi-permanent color which provides healthy, shiny results, incredible conditioning with an amazing number of mixing possibilities. Shades EQ is used as a glaze, color refresher, and also color correction.

Amy Adams has said herself that she is not a natural redhead. She is blonde.

I like her color in Leap Year the best. It is so natural. Does nybody know
the formula for it? It seemed a bit darker and slightly more ash hue although it looked red in the sunlight. It is a total mystery to me how they
got her to look so natural in that movie. This current red is a bit too
severe I think for her.
