Food Network’s Next Iron Chef runner-up Jehangir Mehta’s bigger and more intense sister restaurant to Graffiti will be named Mehtahphor and will open in September. This new Tribeca restaurant will offer several intimate dining areas, including a dessert-cocktail bar, a tiny loungy dining area, a bar-bar, a time worn wooden communal table fully wired for laptops and internet access, and a lovely small dining room. The entire restaurant is awash in glass frontage.
The clean, modern shell will be accented by warm golden print fabric on banquettes (with little cubbyholes for purses, bags, briefcases, etc), intricate wooden shutters half way up the expansive windows. Less of the digs will be handcrafted than Graffiti, while more selections will be present on Mehtahphor’s menu which is inspired by Asian urban tastes and scents, and wrapped in Jehangir Mehta’s singular chef voice. The average price of plates at this new eatery certainly won’t hurt the bank at $7-$15 plates; and a wine list similar to Graffiti’s $20 bottles and $8 glasses.
Mehtaphor will also make its menu available for “high-end house calls” for parties of two, aka delivery with a higher minimum order for selected guests.
