Do It Yourself: The Perfect Hair for Your Holiday Affair!

by

So many holiday parties, so little time to do your hair!  I, for one, don’t want to have the same look at EVERY party.  I am excited for new looks to try this year, especially now that my hair has grown back some from the shorter than normal haircut I received last Spring.  The following step by step guide to making the perfect holiday hair style at home comes to us from celebrity stylist Andrea Piccolo of New York City’s Concept Salon.

Getting Started: After your shower, blow-dry your hair and part your hair along its natural line.

Sections: Next, you need to portion your hair into 6-8 sections depending on how much hair you have. Try and make sure that they are all the same size and then use clips to secure the sections – this step is crucial to doing it yourself!

Curling: Using a 1-inch curing iron to curl each section, begin with the front and work your way back while curling each section away from your face. Hold each section for 5-10 seconds depending on how big you made the sections (if your hair is thicker, then hold it for the full 10 seconds).  If your hair is very straight then consider using some KMS Curl Up Hot Spiral Spray on each section before you curl them.  Don’t worry about making the curls tight, this hairstyle calls for loose curls.

Separate the Curls: Once you’ve curled each section then go ahead and run your fingers through the curls and separate them.

Pony Tail: Go ahead and create a loose ponytail in the back and pin the front up (refer to picture below). Then used a large-toothed comb to go through the end of the pony tail.

Pinning: Now it’s time to take the loose curls from the pony tail and pin them into the top of the pony tail. It should be loose and fun. Use bobby pins to secure them. Now take the top down and pin the strands back into the top of the ponytail as well.

What’s great is you can take the pins down and still have great waves the next day!

Good luck with this holiday hair style – I am going to try it for Christmas Eve!
