Yigal Azrouel’s fall 2009 collection was dark and romantic. I loved all the soft ruffles and feminine details. The colors were mostly subdued– grey and black—with a punch of red and purple. This line made me want to curl up by a fire after a long night out. You know those nights when you’re too tired to take your dress off, so you curl on the carpet with a glass of wine still wearing your boyfriend’s suit jacket? Maybe, maybe not. But those long cardigans and comfy checkered scarves looked some warm and they juxtaposed the other lean, linear, tailored pieces. There was something for everyone.
For that night out: a black, leather paillettes dress (What are paillettes you ask? They’re like spangles, or petals that are applied clustered as a sort of decorative trim).
For a night in: a slouchy cardigan and loose black pants.
Or for a date/ cocktail night: an adorable tweed poufy sleeved dress cinched with a leather belt.
Oh, and one thing was certain: black tights, if not already in, will be in-IN by the fall. They were all over the runway (and all over all the fashionistas). When I interviewed Miss Jay from America’s Next Top Model at the end of the show he was having trouble pronouncing Yigal’s name. He sighed and said “Well, with a face like that you don’t need to know how to pronounce his name.” My take: with a collection like that, Yigal Azrouel is a name you’ll know how to pronounce very soon.
