The founders of Palatium say their new bath line is fit for royalty. And we do suspect that these elegantly fragrant oils and replenishing foams for bath might indeed be the perfect gift for those interested in making Mom feel like an empress for a day. After all, the name does derive from the Palatine Hill—the seat of many famous and infamous ruling women.

Palatium aims to recapture certain luxury aspects of the ancient Romans and Etruscans, for whom bathing was paramount. And what mother does not agree that this should be a part of her own regular ritual? Olive oil played a key role in Roman bathing. So it is no surprise that this line is made with a high-grade organic choice from Tuscany, which region is renowned for the quality of the olive oil it produces. The quality of this particular ingredient in the line can be felt to the touch with long-lasting results for the skin post-bath.

The quality of this particular ingredient in the line can be felt to the touch with long-lasting results for the skin post-bath.

The high-grade oil enhances the quality of the scents in the mixture beautifully. Palatium’s three inaugural fragrances are inspired by scents native to the Mediterranean and Classical Italy. They were carefully crafted by master New York-based artisanal perfumer Rayda Vega, and include:

Arancia Dolce—Inspired by the sweet citrus of the orange groves lining seaside retreats from Cinque Terre to Amalfi. Top Note: Effervescent orange, grapefruit and lime zest. Mid Note: Lily of the valley, jasmine and orange blossom. Bottom Note: Cedarwood and gentle musk.

Fico Speziato—Based on the scent of fresh fig balanced by gentle spices from Jerusalem and Alexandria along the Eastern edges of the Mediterranean. Top Note: Fresh dew drops of rain and green notes from orange flower leaves. Mid Note: Magnolia, rose petals and jasmine. Bottom Note: Exotic woods and musk.

Mare Myrteus—Blends the elemental zest of a refreshing trade wind with spirited notes of Tyrrhenian myrtle berries. Top Note: Refreshing bergamot, sparkling lemon and cool, ocean air breezes. Mid Note: Floral jasmine and muguet blended with tangy ginger. Bottom Note: Blonde woods, amber and musk.

Palatium bath oil also includes other nourishing oils—such as organic soybean, jojoba and primrose—along with soothing vitamin E and organic green and white tea extracts. The replenishing foam was designed with a healthful combination of ingredients such as aloe vera, vitamin C ester and flower extracts like soothing chamomile.

Palatium offers the gift of a luxurious experience for any mom who wishes to be treated to a royal experience. And through May 13, 2012, we are offering BeyondBeautyBasics readers a special discount of 40% off at www.thepalatium.com with the code “MDAYBBB,” courtesy of the brand.

News that Marc Jacobs had his first meeting with make-up giant Sephora to create his debut make-up line has the internet buzzing! This seems to be the direction for the revered designer who has already dabbled in 10 different colorful perfumes including Daisy, Lola, and his forthcoming scent Dot set for a Summer launch.

“Anything to me that is part of the joy, the ritual, of getting dressed — things that women enjoy like bags, shoes, fragrance, clothes, makeup — that’s what fashion’s about for me,” said Jacobs, during an exclusive interview for his newest scent, Dot, which will be launched by Coty Prestige in July. “I love the opportunity, wherever there is one, to adorn, to decorate, to scent, to dress. That’s what fashion’s all about. It’s not necessary, it’s something you want — it’s a fancy and a whim.”

You may recall when another famous designer, Tom Ford first dabbled into make-up and the collection as grown to be a favorite among young fashionistas.

Watching the hairstyles that models sport on the runway can be intimidating during some seasons, but for spring and summer 2012, high fashion hairdos have become a bit more accessible for the majority of women. Wearable hairstyle trends get a big welcome from celebrities, too, because they know they won’t have to go through major fuss and trouble to get their hair looking hot on the red carpet.

Currently popular and always easy, the ponytail has been spotted everywhere from Fashion Week to the Academy Awards. The basic, simple style can stay chic and low-key, or get glammed up with accessories and unique hair shaping. Tightly slicked back hair with a ponytail that sits high on the head makes for a trendy look with the added bonus of a facelift effect. The ponytail becomes fancier and more glamorous when the hair is divided and clipped into different sections on the back of the head and then gathered together into one ponytail right above the neck. While stylists and designers mainly choose sleek, neat ponytails, the more casual messy look has not gone completely out of style.

Hair ornaments and adornments have also stepped to the fashion forefront for 2012. Accessories run the gamut from rhinestone-encrusted clips to ’80s-inspired scrunchies. Choose the look you want and accessorize your hairstyle at will.

A variation on the gathered ponytail style that’s been spotted for S/S ’12 is the big, bold braid down the back of the head. Fergie loves the look, and, as usual, has been at the forefront of fashion by sporting braided styles for several years. Braids have as much or more versatility as ponytails, and can sit high on the head or start lower down. French braids in a variety of looks remain popular. For a unique, Bohemian look, ribbons can be woven into the braids and hang down below the ends of the hair. Like ponytails, braided hairstyles lend themselves to an abundance of accessories.

The side part is another simple way to display hairstyle savvy in S/S ’12. This rings especially true for women who don’t usually wear their hair parted on the side. For a new and different look, a part that’s far to the side rather than close to the middle lends drama and a hint of mystery. Adding a side part to a ponytail style gives it an extra touch of sophistication.

When women let down their hair for S/S ’12, straight and stringy is out, and glamorous and wavy is in. The elegant blowout has been seen strutting down the catwalk and the red carpet. Celebs like Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Lopez fluff out their long locks for maximum hair appeal.

Whatever style you go with, remember that glamor and drama rule this spring and summer.

Seen on the catwalks at everywhere from Marni to Prada, they’re a great, simple way to introduce a bit of fun and color back into our wardrobes for the summer months.

Over at Prada pastel dresses were decorated with cartoon Cadillac’s, whereas Marni opted for bright 70s inspired flowers. On the high street and online, retailers are already getting in on the act with their own versions of fun, novelty prints. Take a look at this pineapple print dress from Whistles at ASOS for $268.58. But if you’re not into novelty prints there are other ways to incorporate fun prints into your wardrobe, and something to suit every personality.

Stripes are an understated, style classic and are particularly flattering. Opt for abstract blocks of stripes in contrasting colors or vibrant multi-colored stripes to make you stand out from the crowd. If you’re feeling brave and looking to try something a bit different go for digital print dresses. Inspired by a relative newcomer to the fashion industry, Mary Katrantzou, digital print is proving to be a big trend for next season. Choose from animal print, floral print or quirky, abstract print. Digital print dresses are head turners that will keep your look fresh and show off your individuality.

So whether you choose novelty prints, stripes or digital prints, remember to have fun with your look. Go for individual, quirky dresses and wear minimal accessories to avoid pattern overload. You can even create a versatile look by pairing them with heels for work or a night out and dress them down with a pair of masculine brogues or pumps for daytime chic! This makes printed dresses great investment buys for Spring/Summer.

Which style will you go for next season?

After the bride, the focus of attention of wedding guests will be on the outfit chosen by the mother of the bride. It is important therefore, to give a lot of thought to mother of the bride outfits. A daughter’s wedding is the most important day of her life, making the role of her mother pivotal in the success of the wedding.

Consider The Fabric Type
What time of year will the wedding take place? Will the chosen fabric retain its appearance as the day goes on, or is it liable to crease? It is good to consult with the bride about how she feels about the outfit chosen. It is best to start looking for outfits as early as possible to avoid a last minute rush.

Colour
Select hues that flatter skin tone and hair colour. It is inappropriate for the mother of the bride to wear an all white or all black outfit at a wedding, or to wear the same colour as the mother of the groom, although traditionally, the bride’s mother is first to choose her outfit.

Accessories
The shoes, jewellery and hat should complement the outfit. A flattering corsage may be worn. When considering shoes it is important to remember that they will be worn all day, so need to be comfortable as well as beautiful. It is a good idea to have a matching handbag to carry all of those “extras”, including plenty of tissues, of course!

Underwear
Special hosiery or slimming underwear can be utilised to create a smooth, slim line underneath an outfit, which is a great confidence booster.

Focus
The mother of the bride should not wear an outfit that detracts focus away from the bride. it would be inappropriate to wear very bold patterned styles or bright colours, such as red or yellow. The mother of the bride should not try and dress too young for her age.

Style
There are many different styles of outfit to choose from and the mother of the bride should choose the one that suits her best. Body shape should be taken into consideration when selecting an outfit, as “problem areas”, such as a large tummy or bust can be minimised by the right choice of clothing. Styles vary from short, floaty dresses to smart trouser suits or a skirt suit combination. The style of the outfit should reflect the personality of the wearer.

Grooming
Think about hair and makeup several weeks before the wedding. A soft, elegant hairstyle is usually appropriate for the mother of the bride. A wedding is the perfect opportunity for the mother of the bride to have a pampering session.

No woman’s shoe collection is complete without a sexy pair of black boots, but shopping for just the right ones can be harrowing. With so many styles, colors and materials available, finding the right boots might feel impossible. However, you don’t have to worry anymore, as this new pair is sure to be a game changer for any woman.

These black over-the-knee boots are a must have. The black, 16-inch shaft glides over the leg while hugging the calf to create a smooth, clean look that’s not too bulky. The microfiber material keeps them from having that call girl look. However, you don’t need to worry that they won’t standout since their cuff is studded with black rhinestones. The cuff keeps these boots from looking too sweet by adding an edge to any look. The wearer can rest assured she will have ample height as the four and a half-inch heel gives her proper lift. A one inch covered platform keeps the heel from feeling too steep and stops it from interfering with how you strut your stuff while wearing them. The man-made sole lets any woman do all the walking she wants without worrying about putting a hole in her new boots. The split behind these boots’ cuffs keeps them from feeling too tight around the knees, and gives you the breathing room you need to walk comfortably.

These over-the-knee boots’ versatility makes them an asset to any collection, as they work with just about any outfit. Dress them down for a movie night by pulling them over a pair of skinny jeans. Dress these shoes up by wearing them with a pair of tights and a killer dress. Scrunch the shaft down for that sloppy yet put together look. No matter how you wear these boots they will always be an attention grabber.

Lips
Affording women the power to change their look or make a statement on a budget, lip colour has been prominent on the catwalks throughout the recession, and looks set to get even brighter in s/s12. While models on the Erdem, Christopher Raeburn and Jasper Conran runways sported more conventional red bee-sting lips, Ashish went gothic with deep mauve and Mary Katrantzou’s models made their mark with blue and green pouts. Look out for highlighter bright shades.

Cheeks
Blush is back! Rosy pink cheeks graced the LFW catwalks, with models on the Issa and Meadham Kirchoff runways promoting pretty peach highlights as a statement beauty style to complement their candy coloured dresses. If this look is a bit too girly for you, you could always take a leaf out of Danielle Scott’s book and perfect the tribal trend with a bold block of colour under one eye. Did someone say Nelly?

Eyes
Three big eye make up trends came out of the LFW shows last month: sultry Sixties style, colour pop and metallic. Models on the Bora Aksu, House of Holland and Holly Fulton catwalks showcased heavily kholled eyes with rich red shadow for smoky effect, while Clements Ribeiro and Meadham Kirchhoff went for bold colour pops in pink, green and blue and Vivienne Westwood dramatic shimmer eye colour which exploded out onto brows and cheeks.

Nails
Mirroring the beauty press and pop world’s current obsession with nail colour, the LFW stylists made sure that their looks were bold and bright right down to the details. Issa and Holly Fulton went for paint in one of s/s12’s hottest colours, coral, while the latter again borrowed from the aqua palette for turquoise nails. Riffing on the nature trend, Vivienne Westwood’s models sported green talons in a spectrum of lush summery shades.

So if LFW beauty looks are anything to go by for next summer, it’s time to invest in some statement make up!
