The founders of Palatium say their new bath line is fit for royalty. Palatium aims to recapture certain luxury aspects of the ancient Romans and Etruscans, for whom bathing was paramount. Arancia Dolce—Inspired by the sweet citrus of the orange groves lining seaside retreats from Cinque Terre to Amalfi. Top Note: Effervescent orange, grapefruit and lime zest. Mid Note: Lily of the valley, jasmine and orange blossom. Bottom Note: Cedarwood and gentle musk. 

Fico Speziato—Based on the scent of fresh fig balanced by gentle spices from Jerusalem and Alexandria along the Eastern edges of the Mediterranean. Top Note: Fresh dew drops of rain and green notes from orange flower leaves. Mid Note: Magnolia, rose petals and jasmine. Bottom Note: Exotic woods and musk. 

Mare Myrteus—Blends the elemental zest of a refreshing trade wind with spirited notes of Tyrrhenian myrtle berries. Top Note: Refreshing bergamot, sparkling lemon and cool, ocean air breezes. Mid Note: Floral jasmine and muguet blended with tangy ginger. Bottom Note: Blonde woods, amber and musk. 

Palatium bath oil also includes other nourishing oils—such as organic soybean, jojoba and primrose—along with soothing vitamin E and organic green and white tea extracts. “Anything to me that is part of the joy, the ritual, of getting dressed — things that women enjoy like bags, shoes, fragrance, clothes, makeup — that’s what fashion’s about for me,” said Jacobs, during an exclusive interview for his newest scent, Dot, which will be launched by Coty Prestige in July. “I love the opportunity, wherever there is one, to adorn, to decorate, to scent, to dress. That’s what fashion’s all about. It’s not necessary, it’s something you want — it’s a fancy and a whim.”

The 2012 CFDA Fashion Awards will be hosted by head writer and anchor of Saturday Night Live, Seth Meyers and will be part of a yearlong celebration of the CFDA’s 50^th Anniversary. The Awards will take place on Monday, June 4^th 2012 at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Broadway  New York.

Von Furstenberg started the proceedings by thanking Nadja and Swarovski for their continued support of American fashion. Von Furstenberg and CFDA CEO Steven Kolb then made the announcements of nominees and honorees.

“This year, as we celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the CFDA, we can see what a critical role the CFDA Fashion Awards continue to play in our efforts to promote American Fashion,” said Steven Kolb, CFDA CEO. “This year’s nominees truly represent the important influence of American design.  We look forward to once again honoring the best and brightest talent working today. Winning a CFDA Fashion Award is the highest and one of the most coveted honors one can receive in our industry. All of this is made possible by the long-time support of Swarovski.”

The Fashion Icon Award will be given to Johnny Depp, the first male recipient to receive the award, for his personal and eclectic sense of style.

The Founders Award, given in honor of CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert who is widely credited with putting American fashion on the map, will go to Andrew Rosen.

The International Award will go to Rei Kawakubo for Comme des Garçons for making an outstanding creative contribution to the world of fashion.

The nominees are as follows:

Womenswear Designer of the Year Award are Hollywood’s bubbly star twins Ashley Olsen & Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row, Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, and Marc Jacobs.

Menswear Designer of the Year nominees are: Billy Reid, Patrik Ervell, and Simon Spurr.

Accessory Designer of the Year Award the nominees are: Alexander Wang, Jack McCollough & Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, and Reed Krakoff.

Swarovski Award for Womenswear Chris Peters & Shane Gabier for Creatures of the Wind, Joseph Altuzarra, and Max Osterweis & Erin Beatty for Suno .

Swarovski Award for Menswear are Antonio Azzuolo, Phillip Lim, and Todd Snyder.

Swarovski Award for Accessory Design, the nominees are Irene Neuwirth, Pamela Love, and Tabitha Simmons.

The Swarovski Award recipients in each category will receive generous financial support from Swarovski as well as exposure to the company’s vast and innovative Swarovski crystal resources.

The honorary awards go to a diverse group of people. The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, named for the fiercely independent, four-time CFDA Fashion Award winner, will be presented to Tommy Hilfiger.

The Media Award, given in honor of Eugenia Sheppard, the influential journalist who revolutionized fashion reporting with her reports in the New York City Herald Tribune, will be given to Scott Schuman & Garance Doré.

The yearlong celebration of the CFDA’s 50^th Anniversary kicked off in February with the exhibition opening at the Museum at F.I.T. titled IMPACT: Fifty Years of the CFDA and the companion book IMPACT: 50 Years of the Council of Fashion Designers of America which explores the impact ofAmerica’s most influential designers over the last five decades.

“This year, Swarovski is proud to celebrate the 11th anniversary of our partnership with the CFDA Fashion Awards,” said Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski Crystal Business. “Each of this year’s nominees is truly an industry leader and part of the new generation of American talent.  In particular, we are immensely delighted with the nominees for the Swarovski Awards who are exceptionally talented and extraordinarily creative.”

Nominations for each award category are submitted by the CFDA Fashion Awards Selection Committee, made up of the 400+ members of the CFDA, along with top fashion retailers, journalists, and stylists. The nominees, as well as recipients of the honorary awards, were confirmed yesterday at a meeting of the CFDA Board of Directors.

The final votes will be tabulated by Ernst & Young LLP, the official accounting firm of the 2012 CFDA Fashion Awards.

Over at Prada pastel dresses were decorated with cartoon Cadillac’s, whereas Marni opted for bright 70s inspired flowers. Stripes are an understated, style classic and are particularly flattering. Opt for abstract blocks of stripes in contrasting colors or vibrant multi-colored stripes to make you stand out from the crowd. If you’re feeling brave and looking to try something a bit different go for digital print dresses. Inspired by a relative newcomer to the fashion industry, Mary Katrantzou, digital print is proving to be a big trend for next season. Choose from animal print, floral print or quirky, abstract print. Digital print dresses are head turners that will keep your look fresh and show off your individuality.

So whether you choose novelty prints, stripes or digital prints, remember to have fun with your look. Go for individual, quirky dresses and wear minimal accessories to avoid pattern overload. You can even create a versatile look by pairing them with heels for work or a night out and dress them down with a pair of masculine brogues or pumps for daytime chic! This makes printed dresses great investment buys for Spring/Summer.

Which style will you go for next season?

Consider The Fabric Type
What time of year will the wedding take place? Will the chosen fabric retain its appearance as the day goes on, or is it liable to crease? It is good to consult with the bride about how she feels about the outfit chosen. It is best to start looking for outfits as early as possible to avoid a last minute rush.

Colour
Select hues that flatter skin tone and hair colour. It is inappropriate for the mother of the bride to wear an all white or all black outfit at a wedding, or to wear the same colour as the mother of the groom, although traditionally, the bride’s mother is first to choose her outfit.

Accessories
The shoes, jewellery and hat should complement the outfit. A flattering corsage may be worn. When considering shoes it is important to remember that they will be worn all day, so need to be comfortable as well as beautiful. It is a good idea to have a matching handbag to carry all of those “extras”, including plenty of tissues, of course!

Underwear
Special hosiery or slimming underwear can be utilised to create a smooth, slim line underneath an outfit, which is a great confidence booster.

Focus
The mother of the bride should not wear an outfit that detracts focus away from the bride. it would be inappropriate to wear very bold patterned styles or bright colours, such as red or yellow. The mother of the bride should not try and dress too young for her age.

Style
There are many different styles of outfit to choose from and the mother of the bride should choose the one that suits her best. Body shape should be taken into consideration when selecting an outfit, as “problem areas”, such as a large tummy or bust can be minimised by the right choice of clothing. Styles vary from short, floaty dresses to smart trouser suits or a skirt suit combination. The style of the outfit should reflect the personality of the wearer.

Grooming
Think about hair and makeup several weeks before the wedding. A soft, elegant hairstyle is usually appropriate for the mother of the bride. A wedding is the perfect opportunity for the mother of the bride to have a pampering session.

These black over-the-knee boots are a must have. The black, 16-inch shaft glides over the leg while hugging the calf to create a smooth, clean look that’s not too bulky. Dress these shoes up by wearing them with a pair of tights and a killer dress. Scrunch the shaft down for that sloppy yet put together look. No matter how you wear these boots they will always be an attention grabber.

Lips
Affording women the power to change their look or make a statement on a budget, lip colour has been prominent on the catwalks throughout the recession, and looks set to get even brighter in s/s12. While models on the Erdem, Christopher Raeburn and Jasper Conran runways sported more conventional red bee-sting lips, Ashish went gothic with deep mauve and Mary Katrantzou’s models made their mark with blue and green pouts. Look out for highlighter bright shades.

Cheeks
Blush is back! Rosy pink cheeks graced the LFW catwalks, with models on the Issa and Meadham Kirchoff runways promoting pretty peach highlights as a statement beauty style to complement their candy coloured dresses. If this look is a bit too girly for you, you could always take a leaf out of Danielle Scott’s book and perfect the tribal trend with a bold block of colour under one eye. Did someone say Nelly?

Eyes
Three big eye make up trends came out of the LFW shows last month: sultry Sixties style, colour pop and metallic. Models on the Bora Aksu, House of Holland and Holly Fulton catwalks showcased heavily kholled eyes with rich red shadow for smoky effect, while Clements Ribeiro and Meadham Kirchhoff went for bold colour pops in pink, green and blue and Vivienne Westwood dramatic shimmer eye colour which exploded out onto brows and cheeks.

Nails
Mirroring the beauty press and pop world’s current obsession with nail colour, the LFW stylists made sure that their looks were bold and bright right down to the details. Issa and Holly Fulton went for paint in one of s/s12’s hottest colours, coral, while the latter again borrowed from the aqua palette for turquoise nails. Riffing on the nature trend, Vivienne Westwood’s models sported green talons in a spectrum of lush summery shades.

So if LFW beauty looks are anything to go by for next summer, it’s time to invest in some statement make up!
