The Organic Pharmacy Is Finally Here!

by Beyond Beauty Basics

The Organic Pharmacy is a line of men’s products that has been making a huge impact over in the U.K. and I am so excited to say that they have now launched here in the US. The Organic Pharmacy carries pure organic products as of now but will be expanding into a larger range of skin care. This is a certified organic line by the U.K’s Soil Association and is free of artificial preservatives, colorants, petrochemicals and fragrance. They use only the purest and highest grade natural and organic ingredients. All the products come in 75ml tubes so they are perfect for those men who like to use a lot of product!

I personally love the packaging and according to Margo Marrone, the co-founder of The Organic Pharmacy, about 90 percent of the customers are women. The prices are great ranging from $39-$59 and are all infused with antioxident protection as well as ingredients like green tea and tamanu for their anti-inflammatory properties.

What I was really impressed with is that every Organic Pharmacy product has a shelf life of 2 years which is hard to find with organic lines. After opening, you get 9 months but you are sure to go through it and love it the entire time!

Visit The Organic Pharmacy to explore the entire line in detail, you are sure to be impressed and I love the site. It’s packed with info on organic ingredients and remedies to help heal and calm the skin. Enjoy!

We have always given our must-haves for your makeup bag, but lets talk about what’s going on in your shower. I feel like your bath should be more like a ritual, not a regimen and a total sensorial experience. Here are the body product must-haves to get your skin ready for winter!

A fabulous Body Exfoliator…

There is no other like Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish. Fresh was the first company to use Brown Sugar as an exfoliant and they have mastered it with this body polish. Finally, a luxurious Body Cream…

Yes, I said Cream, not lotion. Summer is over and it is time to hydrate the right way with a rich body cream to keep your skin hydrated all day. Natura Bisse Diamond Body Cream is the perfect end to an luxury beauty ritual. This body cream regenerates, nourishes, and protects the skin from moisture loss. Diamond Body cream actually contains essential fatty acids and marine algae to keep the skin firm. This is the perfect end to the bath.

If you feel like adding an actual bath soak to your ritual and live like true royalty would, you have to try Sake Bath from Fresh. This bath was inspired by Geishas and is infused with 60% real Sake. Your body will actually be drunk when you get out of the bath so just go straight to bed. That is a little extra for those of us that like to spice it up.

Why Covet Thy Neighbor’s Hair?

by Beyond Beauty Basics

britmurph.jpgWhy do we always want what we don’t have? I grew up in a family of women (and men for that matter) with (natural) perfectly straight hair. That wasn’t to say that they ever actually had straight hair, because every two to three months it was perm time. The smell of ammonia barely left the house before my mother had someone else at our kitchen table getting their perfectly fine, beautifully straight hair curled into either tight ringlets or loose waves. (Brittany Murphy, left, covet worthy hair and make-up shot)

I think that it’s human nature to want what we don’t have. As an advocate of make-up, I agree with anything that will better my (or someone else’s) appearance.

badhair.jpgI will say that nothing looks worse than over-processed straightened hair or a bad kinky perm. Better to just leave it alone, get a good cut and use the correct styling products for your hair type (or if it’s really horrible, cut it off and buy a wig). (over processed bad perm, right)

tatum.jpgI do wonder, however, why men with great, full heads of hair shave their heads repeatedly? Is it just to be in style or are they lazy and don’t want to be bothered with fixing it (probably)? (Channing Tatum, left) I guess they don’t realize that (for a large majority of them) the time will come soon enough that they won’t have to fix their hair because (some or most of) it will have fallen out.

Fashion Fits

by Beyond Beauty Basics

If selling clothes is the object of fashion shows, then why are the models so tall and thin? The average Northern American woman is a size 14 at 5’4” and weighs 152 pounds (according to the department of Health and Human Services). The average model is a size 6 and is 5’10” (with measurements of 34, 24,34). (Nikki Taylor, right)

Fashion designers and beauty editors will use the excuse that the height and weight ratio of professional models show off their creations in the most flattering light. When one looks at the silver screen beauties of the 40s, 50’s and 60’s, we aren’t seeing 6’, 108lb. women.

Most of the actresses of this era were an average of 5’4” tall, yet they never appeared short and dumpy and the clothes we see them in still exude the essence of fine apparel. The primary reason for this is a true understanding of a woman’s body, it’s proportions and the use of tailoring and fitting techniques to enhance those natural attributes. Even older and fuller figured women of these time periods cut fine figures. (Joan Crawford, below, 5’1”)

True beauty isn’t necessarily being seen in the latest Dolce and Gabbana or Gucci, unless it fits your body type. Rather, the true fashionista absorbs what she sees in print and in the stores and translates it into a look that’s flattering for her.

One would think that with the majority of women not fitting the standards projected on the runway that more designers would actually address the reality that is the figures of the women who are really out there. After all they’re in the business to make money, and what better way to make money than to expand your client base.
