A Beauty-ful Word: Humectant

by Paul Baranda

Humectant: (h)yo??mekt?nt

adjective.

retaining or preserving moisture.

noun.

a substance, esp. a skin lotion or a food additive, used to reduce the loss of moisture.

ORIGIN- early 19th century(denoting a moistening agent): from Latin humectant- ‘moistening,’ from the verb humectare, from humectus ‘moist, wet,’ from humere ‘be moist.’

The common ingredient in inexpensive moisturizers is glycerin. The desired ingredient (for now) is hyluronic acid. This ingredient binds considerably more moisture than glycerin and is produced naturally in the skin subsequently (in most people) causing little to no irritation.

Paris Hilton is Free from Jail!

by Paul Baranda

paris_out_of_jail.jpg     After 23 days in jail, Paris Hilton is Free! Paris walked out of prison just after midnight last night to freedom. I was hoping she would be sporting a new orange jumpsuit of starting a new jail-like trend, maybe an ankle bracelet or something creative, but she kept it simple in her dark denim jeans, with tee and green and white trim cropped jacket.

She was all smiles and looked like she was enjoying the attention as she walked to meet her parents with a big hug. Funny, I thought there was no makeup in jail because Paris had a face full of bronzer and lips full of lip-gloss! With her hair extensions in place and off to a side braid, Paris walked her catwalk walk. Now that Paris is out of jail, I am sure it will only take minutes before she is back in the media spotlight. She is already scheduled to appear on Larry King Live tonight where she will tell her side of the story.

Now that Paris is free and already causing a media frenzy, stay tuned to see what she does next, who knows, maybe her next project will actually do something good for people, but lets not hold our breath. What do you guys think…Do you think Paris will straighten up or go back to her wild ways?

Moonlit Escapade: The MAC Moonbathe Collection

by Paul Baranda

Whether you wear these colors as shown or as additions to your current look, most of this new collection from MAC Cosmetics is a beautiful way to warm up an already bronzed skin tone for a night on the town.

note: If your ethnic background is anything other than white, using warm colors (either in red, orange or gold tones) is an easy pick-me-up for your skin color. Try using red or orange on the higher part of your eye crease after you’ve already finished with your darker crease color. Also, adding a warm gold as a cheek highlighter, really emphasizes your cheek bones.

Here are the pieces in the collection that you all just have to have! … Continue Reading

beyond the basics: Blotting Excess Facial Oils

by Paul Baranda

_5317318.jpg     When blotting your face from excess oil, use either blotting papers or blotting powder (specifically designed for this purpose). If you choose the powder, I suggest using a brush instead of the pad (for the reason below).Using your regular face powder or powder foundation adds more coverage every time that you blot, changing your appearance from natural to cakey (by the end of a hot day), as well as transferring your oils back into the powder (creating a hard shell over time on the surface of your product)

The MAC blotting papers pictured are available at Nordstrom.com for $12.50

Or try another kind of blot paper
