Got Sensitive Skin? Try Mineral Makeup from Physicians Formula

by Paul Baranda

If you like Bare Minerals, you are going to Love Physicians Formula’s New Mineral Makeup Line!

Physicians Formula Mineral Wear is only 10.99 and you get a concealer too! This concealer is a mineral cream that is extremely lightweight but also provides smooth-medium coverage without looking “cakey.”

The powder is talc-free so that helps sensitive skin and breakout prone skin stay calm and non-irritated. You will actually get the coverage you are looking for from a foundation, and you can build on it to keep a light fresh look or, a heavier look for full coverage. A large powder brush comes with your powder and snaps into the lid for safe keeping. It comes in 8 shades and the bronzer is my favorite, it will give your skin an all over sun-kissed summer glow.

Physicians formula has a complete line of color, from eyes, cheeks, face, and lip, you will love them all. The mineral line is perfect for all skin types but for those of us who are sensitive like me, I have experimented with the entire line and absolutely love it! What I love the most is the wear, it stays on the entire day and the only thing I needed to reapply was my lip.

Available at CVS.com or your nearest drugstore.

Cosmetic Sales Associate Guide: 5 Ways to Approach Customers

by Paul Baranda

(cue the Jaws soundtrack)…dun dun dun dun DUN DUN!

I am simply amazed at the number of customers who are strolling through the stores that will actually sit down in someone’s cosmetic chair (that they don’t know) and either have their make-up done or let someone do a mini facial on them (in the aisle).

I personally find walking through Cosmetic departments in large stores a bit frightening. Exactly how many people in one department can approach a customer (even when they see that the person has already been approached by 20 other people 10 feet away from them) without feeling as if they’ve gone (way) past (the guise of) being helpful or offering a customer service.

I realize that everyone has a goal to meet and that commission sales people must eat, but at what cost to the customer?

To ALL the sales people out there that may be reading:

  1. Be polite… say please
  2. Don’t pull me (physically) from the aisle and place me in your chair
  3. Ask if it’s okay for you to put something on my face before you actually do it
  4. If you’re doing make-up, please make sure that the brushes are clean and the lipstick has been disinfected with alcohol
  5. Thank me for shopping with you. I could easily be shopping somewhere else!

Style Lite

by Paul Baranda

Frederic Fekkai has a product that’s been on the market now for about a year. It’s a great product for those fly-aways (for those of us with thinner textured hair) because it won’t weigh your hair down. It’s similar to the products that you may have used (from Fekkai as well as other companies) that are silicone based that: separate curls, add shine and reduce frizz, but it comes in a lighter spray form. Take it along when you travel (without your hair stylist). It’s also great to smooth out bed-head when you don’t want to wash.

Make-up Faves: Powder Eyeshadows

by Paul Baranda

Powder Eyeshadows

I’ve chosen the following brands of eyeshadows based on their level of pigment, their pay-off, wear-ability and color/texture selection. Many luxury companies add treatment properties to their shadows. As this might (over time) help to preserve the texture of the skin on your eyelids, it usually makes the consistency of the shadows too creamy (even in powder form) and they end up creasing on your lid in a few hours. Some people find the texture of the brands that I prefer to be dry, but it’s typical of this level of pigment and it’s what keeps them on for 12+ hours. Remember to use a shadow base or concealer under any powder shadow. It gets rid of discoloration and gives the shadow something to adhere to.

There are many brands that I like specific colors and/or textures for specific effect, but these are my faves.

Shu Uemura (best choice of color and textures)
